2016 Year in Review

I'm happy to say that the first year of the Tubby Hook Paddle Company was successful - far more successful than a startup weekends-only bring-your-own-boat sea kayaking instruction operation has any right to be !

First of all, there was the June ACA L2 Kayak Touring class up at Lake Sebago, NY, followed later on by an assessment in August. We had a great deal of fun, working on strokes and on rescues. Special thanks to fellow instructor Jean Kostelich for helping out on the assessment!

We also got in some touring, with old clients and new. A trip down the Harlem to Little Hell Gate Park on Randalls Island, and some touring in the Hudson Valley area.

Additionally, some more advanced classes, working eddy lines and more sophisticated rescues, near Spuyten Duyvil and the George Washington Bridge. Not to mention tagging along as an assistant at the Hudson River Paddling Symposium hosted by Prime Paddlesports, with coaches like John Carmody and Carl Ladd.

So, looking ahead, I (Julie) am working out plans for 2017. Thanks to all the great feedback from the end-of-year survey, expect to see more combinations of a little touring with a little instruction. I'm scouting out new venues with great vistas and interesting features to play on, not to mention partnering with other outfitters to better manage mixed groups of paddlers.

Thanks for all your great business last year, and here's looking forward to an awesome sophomore summer!

"C" you later!
